What is a private room?
A private room is not shared with other travelers. Usually private rooms are for 2 people that share a double bed. In the event that one person wants to book a private room, they must book the room as if they were 2 people and pay the full amount of the room, which is prorated for two people. There are also private rooms with single beds for 1 person, and there are private rooms for 3 or more persons as well. The bottom line is that private rooms must be paid for in full when making a booking, regardless of the number of persons.
As you can see in the booking engine, if you attempt to select a private room, you are allowed to book this room for a minimum of 2 persons.
Some private rooms have private bathrooms and some do not. On minihostels.com, each private room name includes whether a private bathroom is included.
What is a dorm room?
A dorm room is shared with other travelers. You do not have to pay for the room in full, just the individual bed, but the other beds in the room may be booked by other travelers, as dorm rooms are shared rooms.
