This quaint surfing village offers visitors and locals alike soft-white sand beaches, sensational surf, delicious food, wild jungle adventures and perhaps the most stunning sunsets one may ever experience.
The real draw here is the world-class surfing, gorgeous white sand beaches and the pura vida lifestyle. Here surfers of all levels can enjoy waves on not only Playa Santa Teresa, but Playa Carmen which is characterized by its particular wave forms that run on both left and right, as well as have a variety of break points. Daily locals and visitors alike can experience consistent and clean waves. The area also boasts a number of other great activities including four yoga studios, quad-rentals and adventures including, kite surfing, snorkeling, diving, canopy tours and deep sea-fishing.
Outside of the water and daily adventure, one can experience all the conveniences of home in a resort town, without having to be at home or at a resort. Along the main drag of Playa Carmen/ Santa Teresa one can encounter a number of great clothing and surf shops, as well as a wide variety of international and local restaurants that won’t leave any palate unsatisfied. Largely influenced by the Israeli community, you can expect to enjoy some of the best hummus, Tahini cookies and Israeli coffee on this side of the world. Make sure to stop by Café Liberal and Zula to experience these treats. If your stomach is grumbling for a more international meal make sure not to miss Thai food at Casa Zen, sandwiches and juices at Zwart and scrumptious pizza at Pizza Tomate. While there are a few places to venture out at night, the area is rather sleepy, as most visitors and locals try to wake up early for their 6 am surf. If you do feel like having a few brews Good Vibrations is a favorite of many Americans, particularly when there are sports games on. Café Liberal hosts live music both Tuesday and Saturday nights, as well as movie nights and La Llora also features live Latin and reggae music. If you have a true itching for a late night out head to the areas one night club Day & Night or D & N as it is “lovingly” called. D & N features a variety a types of music depending on the evening.
